The Ibex remains glued to 9,000 points but without being able to exceed them
The results and the British 'super Thursday' have focused the attention of investors
Actualizado : 18:01
Again, as we saw this Tuesday, the Ibex 35 has deflated after hitting the resistance of 9,000 points. The selective has risen 0.16%, to 8,982.20 points, after a new intraday annual maximum of 9,010 integers. The index is unable to overcome this resistance no matter how hard it tries ... at least for now. The rest of the European stock markets have also traded quite flat.
Within the selective, the falls of 1% in CaixaBank have stood out after publishing its quarterly results (the profit was 514 million without the impact of the Bankia merger and soared to 4.7bn counting on this effect). On the negative side, the cuts in PharmaMar, Solaria (it has marked annual lows), Siemens Gamesa or Meliá (lost 131 million from January to March) have also attracted attention.
Regarding the values that have risen the most in the index, pay attention to Fluidra (it has shot up 5% and has reached 31 euros after multiplying its quarterly profit by 42 and raising forecasts for this year again), to Merlin Properties, Cie Automotive, Sabadell and Inditex.
This Thursday there has been a new avalanche of results, with very relevant accounts also outside our country, such as those of Volkswagen, Sóciété or ING. You can consult all of them in the live results of Bolsamanía.
ATTENTION TO THE PHARMACEUTICALS
The pharmaceutical manufacturers of the vaccines approved against Covid-19 (Pfizer, BioNTech, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson ...) continue to fall on the stock market today after last night's scare, which led them to register important declines on the other side of the Atlantic.
These companies also fall in the US after the Government of Joe Biden has spoken out in favor of releasing patents for vaccines against the coronavirus.
"The Biden Administration firmly believes in intellectual property, but with the aim of ending this pandemic, it supports the exemption of those protections related to Covid-19 vaccines," he said Thursday, at the close of the market.
In Spain, PharmaMar, like other pharmaceutical companies such as Rovi and Reig Jofre, have suffered sharp drops after this announcement
CENTRAL BANKS
The Bank of England (BoE) has unanimously decided to keep interest rates at a low of 0.1% after its monetary policy meeting in April. It has also voted in favor of leaving the asset purchases unchanged at £895bn, by eight votes in favor and one against. The chief economist of the central bank, Andy Haldane, has been the discordant voice who has opted to reduce the size of the program to 825,000 million pounds.
On the other hand, the BoE now forecasts that GDP growth in 2021 will be 7.25%, which represents a significant increase compared to the 5% forecast in February, thanks to advances in vaccination and fiscal support from the Government.
Continuing with the monetary policy section, the Central Bank of Brazil on Wednesday raised the basic interest rate by 0.75 percentage points, to 3.5% per year, which represents the second consecutive increase in order to contain the rise of inflation. The Brazilian issuer raised rates in March for the first time in six years, from its low of 2% to 2.75%, despite the economic crisis and the uncertainty generated by the coronavirus pandemic.
In Asia, the minutes of the Bank of Japan meeting in March have also been released. The regulator stayed the course of its monetary policy in a meeting where they agreed that the central bank's priority should be to keep an eye on the steadily falling yield curve while the economy remains under stress caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Nikkei, which was quoted again this Thursday after a long holiday break, has risen 1.8%. The Chinese stock exchanges, which also opened in May today, have dropped 0.22% in the Shanghai composite and 1.82% in the Shenzhen component.
In the US, initial jobless claims have dropped below 500,000 for the first time since the pandemic broke out, a figure that has exceeded forecasts.
